Alice Bunker Stockham, Activist: Alice Stockham was the fifth woman to become a doctor in the United States. She was an OBGYN from Chicago. She was an activist who focused on gender equality, dress reform, birth control, and sexual fulfillment in marriage. She was very concerned with the economic plight of divorced women with children. Alice Stockham coined the term Karezza (from the Italian word "caress") and authored a book by this name in 1896. It advocates non-religious spiritual sexual practices that draw upon techniques of body control and encourage these methods as a form of birth control. She was an advocate of the "Oneida method."
Alice Stokes Paul, Activist: Alice Paul was an American suffragist who helped lead a successful campaign for women's suffrage that resulted in the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920. She was the Chairwoman of the National American Woman Suffrage Association Congressional Committee in Washington, D.C. She is a founding member of the National Woman's Party.
