Using BabyBuilder to Find Baby Boys' Names

Once you've started your list, take it to eMedTV's BabyBuilder Web page. BabyBuilderTM is a name creation tool that allows you to search more than 75,000 baby names, along with their meanings and origins.
To begin your research, simply follow these steps:
  • Type the first name on your list in the search box (located on the upper-left side of the alphabet letters), and then click Go. A list of similar names will appear.
  • Click the name you are most interested in.
  • The meaning, origin, and variations of the name will appear, along with the option to view a graph. The graph represents how popular that name has been over the last 100 or so years.
If there is a particular letter of the alphabet you'd like your son's name to begin with, click the Boys tab, and then click the letter. You'll instantly see hundreds of baby boys' names that start with that letter. Click the names that seem interesting, and the meaning, origin, and variations of each name will appear below.
If there are certain meanings you'd like to incorporate into your son's name, BabyBuilder can search names by their meaning, too. To do this, click the Search tab inn the upper-right side of the names box. This brings you to an advanced search page.
Click the Meaning header near the top of the box (just below the Boys tab). This will bring up a box that says "Find meanings that include." Simply type the meanings you like in the box, and BabyBuilder will display the corresponding names.
For example, if you are looking for a name that means "handsome," type the word "handsome" in the box, and a list of 11 names appears. By clicking the names, you can see their additional meanings, origins, and variations. In this example, several of the names have different origins -- Irish Gaelic, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Old English.
Similarly, if you'd like to search by a particular heritage (country of origin), BabyBuilder has several different origins you can search through. These include Irish, French, Hawaiian, Hebrew, Greek, and many more.
To search baby boys' names by origin, click the Search tab, and then click the Origin header just below it. In the box that appears on the left, you can scroll through 75 different origins. Highlight an origin, click Search, and BabyBuilder will produce a wide variety of names from this origin.
